Hi guyz and galz,

Trying to find a program or software that allows me to keep records of the usual criteria involved in keeping snakes i.e. feed, shed, poop etc etc.

I found SnakeKeeper but as I have an android phone I can't use same.

Last resort is to use an excel spreadsheet and have used excel before so shouldn't be too hard to knock up.

Just thought there may be a ready made spreadsheet or similar I could use.

Lastly is there a list of abbreviations and matching names for type of food fed / quick reference guide.

i.e. FMT, WM - weaner mouse.

Thanks again.

Hi all,

i bought a pine unit that i want to convert to an enclosure, it was advertised as RADIATOR PINE, and said it was stained and laqoured.

Now my questions are:

*Is this safe for reptiles? Ive read stuff about pine etc but dont really understand whats what and which is dangerous.

*How do i go about painting this black? Ive been told it will cost loads to paint it, and also been told it wont cost much.

*Whats the best way to seal it?

Thanks in advance, also attatched a picture, is it radiator pine?

When I first got my diamond, the guy who breeds them said to got to a specific pet store which he always goes to and get the things he needs. I asked for a medium rat but she doesn't sell them single, but she said she has a frozen newborn guinea pig which she brought out, it was NOT newborn! It had complete fur all over it and looked about 1/2 a yr old! She said it died for no reason after 'birth' and I said I won't get it cos it may have a disease. So I got a pack of 3 rats and she brought out a tub of reptile calcium/vitamin powder and said 'he needs his food lightly dusted with this to give him calcium' I got a bit confused cos I thought that was only for reptiles eating a low-no calcium diet like crickets. Rats and quails I feed my snake have bone which would be calcium enough? He has a UVA and UVB light, but did I waste $25 on the powder? I havnt opened it so should I take it bak?

Need a laugh? Here's my story for today.

I was doing a bit of study and needed a break, so I did what I normally do, which consists of checking on the snakes and, if need be, taking certain snakes outside to do their business. A few came along for the trip. But the snakes' presence and who pooed and who didn't is of no relevance to this story, as the next thing that happened was a horror the likes of which I couldn't have imagined. Try to think of the most disgusting thing in the world, then compare it to this: I'd just put two of the snakes away and was walking to check on the third when I stood on something buried in the grass. It was cold and squishy and it made a horribly loud noise as it exploded from my bare heel up the backs of my legs.

It was a nearly fully-decomposed green tree frog.

The entire contents of the little guy were on me - brown and white and grey they were - and all that was left on the ground was his flaccid, brown, wet skin. And the smell? Try to combine the following: freshly regurgitated rodent; vinegar; blue vein cheese. The next few minutes involved me tearing my clothes off in the yard, running inside to the shower and spraying myself with boiling water and F10, all the while screaming my head off.
I'll never feel clean again.

My dear albino boy was brought safely back inside by my girlfriend, who did well to carry him given the severity of her giggling.

Hope you enjoyed my story more than I did =)

Hi,

I have a central beardie who is approximately six to seven months old. Watching her grow has become an extreme sport - she's gone from 66 to 238 grams in the last two months.

She gets two serves of medium-sized wood cockroaches daily, morning and evening, and nothing longer than the gap between her eyes. Every second or third day, one of those serves is dusted with calcium. Every week she gets a vitamin supplement. I put a salad in with her all day, consisting of bok choy or baby endives with grated yellow button squash and butternut pumpkin. She loves the greens, will eat the squash and tries to avoid the pumpkin. How much she eats altogether per day depends on her mood. She seems to be strong and healthy, and poops regularly.

I'm a bit unsure about how to proceed from here. I want her to be eating all her salad when she's older, and not to be a fat beardie. At what point do I begin to taper off the insects?

Thanks,

I just wanted to bring this to everyone's attention as this section is probably the most widely read on the aps forum.

If everyone can pop over and have a look at the for sale (non-herp) thread in which forum member Southside Morelia has posted a thread regarding a quite sad situation whereby he has, due to circumstances beyond his control (see thread), had to offer up two of his beloved pets a gorgeous bengal cat and a staffy.

Having read this thread I, personally, couldn't help but be touched by this and the fact due to unfortunate circumstances he has had to move his 2 beautiful pets on. Personally, I couldn't do it but it must have been a very tough and gut wrenching decision for Scott to have to do this.

Furthermore he is offering there up for free. Now I know we all love nothing more then something being offered for free but to be honest in this situation I think he should be offered some more of monetary compensation for two loving, quality pets who are both still at the prime of their young lives.

He prefers them to be kept together and I can understand that.

Have a read of the ad and give it some serious thought and help one of our own.

Good luck with it and here's hoping we get a positive outcome.

Hi all,

Hi all,

New to looking after a couple of red eye tree frogs although I have had green tree frogs when I was younger. I would like to take better care of these frogs however, I feel I neglected my old frogs due to being young and inexperienced.

Anyway, my girlfriend bought me an exo-terra medium terrarium kit and I have it setup just with smooth black pebbles and water, with the pebbles pushed up to create some land and a pump with a large rock to create a waterfall. It looks great and the two frogs seem happy.

On the advice of the aquarium store I used an exo-terra heat mat on the under side of the tank and two 5.0 globes in the lid which I have set to turn on for 6 hours a day.

The problem is in this cold Adelaide weather the temperature is getting too low for my liking. Almost down to 11 degrees at night. Humidity is always good, at around 80-100. I bought a night globe that I can place on the tank at night which raises the temp a bit, but not as much as I'd like.

So, I'd like advice on what I should do about the heating. I was thinking about another dual compact light box with globes that give off more heat. Infrared globes perhaps.

Thanks

Martin.

I've known a few people over the years who have owned snakes. I've always been fascinated with them. Have contemplated over the years of getting one myself but havent really been ready to take the plunge...until now.

I have my heart set on having a Diamond, i think they are just so beautiful :) Wanting to make sure i knew all i could know to get me started i went about googling everything i could and the top results, more often than not, led me here. So here i am, officially :)

I like the idea of the search function...a few keywords and i get to see a lot of helpful things. I have spoken with a couple of different places in Adelaide and have had conflicting advice on what i should and shouldnt do so its time for me to read up and make my own decision...wish me luck? ;)
